How will 5G network technology affect our lives? In which respects does it differ from previous network generations, and what kind of innovative application will it bring?

Distinguished scientists Angelos Amditis, research director at the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS), and Ioannis Tomkos, professor at the University of Patras, will join this year’s Athens Science Festival to answer the aforementioned questions and to educate us about the 5G network, the most important technological advancement of recent times.

In addition to a new technology that revolutionizes data transfer speed and travel, 5G can provide the basis for experiencing not only an explosion of applications and services in the next decade but also radical changes in all areas of human activity.

During the informative discussion titled ‘5G: just another G or a Game changer?’, we will learn more about the innovative applications of the 5G network, the challenges, and the prospects of 5G for the economy and society in Greece. The talk, which will be monitored by journalist Dimitris Delevegos, will also cover and analyze the relevant research activities of the 5G Group at the University of Patras.

This discussion is realized with the support of COSMOTE, which brought the first 5th generation network in Greece.

Dr. Angelos Amditis is a research director at the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS), chairman of ERTICO-ITS Europe, and deputy chairman at Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA).

Dr. I. Tomkos is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Patras.
